Welcome to France
France Permanent Virtual Exhibition and Business Directory
La France is the world’s fifth-largest economy, by GDP, and the third-largest in the EU after Germany and the United Kingdom. France is the breadbasket of Europe, the continent’s largest agricultural producer, and its dairy, meats, produce and wines are renowned the world over.
In addition to its agricultural output, French companies are some of the world’s best-known, particularly Gallic blue chips such as Air Liquide, Carrefour, L’Oreal, Michelin, Peugeot and Renault. France’s largest companies include CAC-40 members Arcelor Mittal, Axa, BNP-Paribas, and Societe Generale.
More than 75 million foreign tourists visit France every year; France is the most-visited country on Earth and ranks third worldwide in income from tourism. Thanks to tourism and increased spending by consumers and by the government, France has been able to withstand the ravages of the global economic downturn.
As the crisis unfolded and expanded, Paris implemented a $35B stimulus package, in February 2009, which included infrastructure improvements and tax breaks for SMEs. The French government also created a $25B fund to help French companies stave off takeovers by foreign companies, in tandem with a $52B allotment, spearheaded by President Nicholas Sarkozy, for science and technology investments. The country ranks seventh in the world for Internet hosts and ninth in the world for Internet users.
